Species

Rank

Fish Status

BLACK CRAPPIE

Average

Black and White Crappie are in this lake; however Black Crappie are the dominant species in our surveys. Only 2 White Crappie were collected in 2017. Seven Black Crappie were collected ranging from 9.8-12.2”. These species are very prolific and can stunt out quickly if they have a successful spawn. The crappie fishery appears to be in balance currently.

BLUEGILL

Very Good

In 2017, Bluegill ranged from 2.8-8.7”. Twenty-two fish (40.7%) were over 7”. Eight fish (14.8%) exceeded 8”. Bluegill in this lake have excellent body condition (Wr=103). The abundant bass population should keep the bluegill fishery under control.

CHANNEL CATFISH

Average

One Channel Catfish was collected in the 2017 survey, measuring 14”. It’s not uncommon to get a small sample of Channel Catfish as they often inhabit deeper waters outside the range of our sampling effectiveness during the daytime. Channel Catfish were stocked in 2017 and 2019. IDNR will continue to stock Channel Catfish as hatchery production allows.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Good

In 2017, 39 Largemouth Bass ranging from 4.7-19.7” were collected. 11% of Largemouth Bass exceeded 15”, and 2.9% exceeded 18”. Fish less than 6” were collected suggesting that natural reproduction is occurring. Most bass ranged from 8-12”. The size structure of this bass fishery is not excellent; however, this is not a concern for this lake. This lake has historically been a respectable panfish lake, so having a high density of small bass should help maintain a quality panfish fishery.
