The Pine Creek has a variety of fish including smallmouth bass, sunfish, crappie, carp and suckers. The river is one of several in the state where the Illinois Department of Natural Resources releases keeper-size trout in the spring and fall. Trout require clean, clear, cold water and in the spring. Pine Creek meets these requirements in the spring and some fish do survive through the hot summer months because of the spring-fed tributaries. The creek is stocked in the spring and fall when the special "catch-and-release only fly fishing season" occurs 2 weeks on Saturday prior to the regular trout harvest seasons. Wade fishing is permitted.

The regular spring trout harvest season begins on the 1 st Saturday in April and the regular fall trout harvest season begins on the 3rd Saturday in October. An Illinois fishing license and an Inland Trout stamp are required and should be purchased before arriving at the park.
