Fish Status



The bluegill population is poor. No bluegill were collected in 2015. In 2014, a total of 15 bluegill were collected with no bluegill over 8 inches. Site Regulation: 25 fish daily limit.



Three catfish (14-25 inches) were collected during the 2015 spring trap netting survey. Site Regulation: 6 fish daily limit.



Green Wing Lake has an excellent crappie population consisting of both black and white crappie. Of the crappie collected in 2015, 87% were over 9 inches, and 62% were over 10 inches in length. Site Regulation: 25 fish daily limit.



An electrofishing survey is the best way to analyze the laregemouth bass population in a lake. Because electrofishing is not an option at this lake, very little is known about the population at this lake. No largemouth bass were collected in 2015, however largemouth bass up to 17 inches have been collected during previous IDNR spring trap netting surveys at this lake. Site Regulation: Creel limit of 5 fish under 14" and one fish over 18"; there is a protected slot of 14-18" (no possession).



Walleye have been stocked annually at this lake since 2002. Two walleye (22-27 inches) were collected in spring 2015. The 27-inch walleye weighed 7.5 pounds. The average annual walleye stocking is 2500 two-inch fish.

Location: Pyramid State Park is located south of Pinckneyville in Perry County. The Denmark Section is accessed off Pyatt-Cutler Road. From State Route 127, head west on Pyatt-Cutler Road. About 7 miles west of Pyramid State Park, turn south into the Denmark Section. Section.

Description: Green Wing Lake is a strip cut lake located on the Denmark Section of Pyramid State Park. Facilities at this 50-acre lake include a concrete boat launch, floating dock, and bathrooms.

History and Status of the Sport Fishery: As a result of high water conductivity, electrofishing is not an effective sampling tool at this lake. All information is based on spring trap netting surveys.

Additional Lake Information: Lake has a 10 HP motor limit. 2 pole and line fishing only. From November 1 through February 28, fishing is allowed in designated areas only, and fishing hours are from 1/2 hour before sunrise to 2:00 PM.
