Fish Status

BLACK CRAPPIE

Average

Four black crappie were collected along the outside weed edge, but there is very little structure to hold fish so sampling for crappie is difficult. The largest black crappie collected measure 8.8” long.

BLUEGILL

Good

In 2016, the largest bluegill caught during sampling was 6.7” and weighed 0.2 lbs. 15% of our sample were greater than 6”, but none exceeded 7” long. The steep sides of this lake may have hurt our ability to detect larger bluegill because they were suspended off shore.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Good

In 2016, bass collected measured up to 20.0”, and weighed up to 4.4 lbs. 46% were greater than 12”, 20% were greater than 15” (legal length) and 5% exceeded 18” long. This size structure makes for some nice “catching," however access is difficult on this small glacial lake! Site Regulation: 15" minimum length limit; 1 fish daily limit.

Location: Timber Lake is located in Raven Glen Forest Preserve, west of Route 45, south of Route 173 and east of the Village of Antioch, Illinois in Lake County

Description: Timber Lake (LCFPD) is a glacial origin lake. Timber Lake is 33.3 acres; shoreline length 1.0 miles; watershed 412 acres (12 to 1); maximum depth 33.3 feet; average depth 16.5 feet. A limestone trail system leads to the lake. A fishing pier is located on the north shore of the lake but no other facilities are available. No boats can be launched from Forest Preserve Property.

History and Status of the Sport Fishery: The IDNR occasionally conducts fish surveys to update the status of the fishery. The lake is relatively remote, so little management occurs on this lake. No stocking occurs in Timber Lake but because of its bathymetry and difficult access, however the lake has a nice bass fishery

Additional Lake Information: No boats can be launched from LCFPD property. All fish species: two pole and line fishing only.

Site Regulation:
Largemouth bass: 15” minimum length limit; 1 fish daily creel limit
