BLUEGILL

Very Good

Sesser Reservoir bluegill abundance in 2016, as measured by electrofishing catch rate, was similar to that of the previous year, but the proportion larger than 6 inches increased to 72% with 5% over 7 inches in length. Bluegill also displayed excellent body condition.

CHANNEL CATFISH

Average

No channel catfish were included in the 2016 sampling of Sesser City Reservoir, but these fish have ranged in size from 18 to 25 inches in previous years. The Sesser City Reservoir channel catfish population is maintained by IDNR stockings every other year. Site Regulation: 6 fish daily limit.

CRAPPIE

Fair

Black and white crappie were collected at rates of 27 and 12 per hour, respectively, in spring 2016. All crappie were between 5 and 10 inches in length, and body condition of smaller fish tended to be acceptable, while condition of larger fish was generally substandard.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Fair

Largemouth bass were found in Sesser City Reservoir in fair to good numbers at the time of the spring 2016 survey. Similar to the previous year, largemouth bass collected easily met the general management plan goal. The proportion of bass larger than 12 inches decreased slightly to 48%, but still easily met the goal. Proportions of 15-inch and 18-inch bass increased substantially to 40% and 20%, respectively, and bass body condition remained acceptable. Site Regulation: 18" length limit and 1 fish daily limit.

REDEAR SUNFISH

Good

Redear were much less common than bluegill in 2016, and these fish were between 6.5 and 9.5 inches in length with excellent body condition. 83% of redear were larger than 8 inches.
