Species

Rank

Fish Status

BLUEGILL

Poor

The bluegill population structure is poor. During the 2016 fall electrofishing survey no bluegill over 7 inches were collected.

CHANNEL CATFISH

Average

Three channel catfish were collected in the 2016 survey ranging in size from 23-32 inches.

CRAPPIE

Poor

Pinckneyville City Lake has a poor crappie population consisting of both black and white crappie. Of the 17 crappie collected in the 2016 fall electrofishing survey, only 2 were over nine-inches in length. Anglers are encouraged to harvest all crappie caught regardless of size to help thin out the population and increase the average size.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Good

Largemouth bass fishing in Pinckneyville City Lake should be good in 2017. Although the bass catch rate was the lowest in the last ten years, above average temperatures may have impacted sampling success. Of the bass collected during the 2016 fall survey, 57% were over 15 inches and 14% were over 18 inches.

REDEAR SUNFISH

Improving

The redear population shows promise with fish over 7 inches present.
