Fish Status


Very Good

Bluegill sunfish are very numerous and offer good fishing due to an improved population size structure. The percentage of 7 inch fish has increased in the last three years and 6 inch fish are common.



A nice population exists with the average catch weighing three pounds.


Very Good

The bass population is fairly well balanced. Although smaller bass are numerous, a nice percentage of fish exist in the 12 to 20 inch length range and there are trophy fish as well topping 7 lbs.



The redear sunfish population is superb. A large percentage of fish are over 8 inches in length and are typically in excellent condition. Many fish weigh .5 to 1 pound.

Location: Randolph County Conservation Area is located 5 miles north east of Chester.

Description: This scenic 65-acre lake is located in a steep, wooded valley. Some years, aquatic plant beds ring the entire shoreline, while in other years plants are absent. There is a concrete boat ramp and plenty of parking in the blacktopped parking lots. Shore angler access is available at many different places around the lake and there is a 10 hp limit for boat motors.

History and Status of the Sport Fishery: The IDNR Division of Fisheries is active in the management of Randolph County Lake since it opened to the public in 1961. The lake receives annual stockings of hybrid walleye and rainbow trout. Channel catfish are also stocked as needed.

Additional Lake Information: There is a 10hp limit for boat motors. There is a concrete boat ramp and plenty of parking in the blacktopped parking lots. Boat rental is available at the concession stand. 2 pole and line fishing only. Swimming, wading, and waterskiing are prohibited.
