BLUEGILL

Average

Despite the high density largemouth bass population, the bluegill population structure can only be described as average. No bluegill over 8 inches were collected in the 2016 spring survey.

CHANNEL CATFISH

Excellent

Four channel catfish (10-18 inches) were collected in 2016. Channel catfish are stocked annually.

CRAPPIE

Average

This lake contains an average black crappie population. No white crappie have been collected in the past 6 surveys. No crappie were collected in the 2016 survey. In previous surveys, very few crappie over 9 inches have been collected.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Average

BIn the 2016 survey, the largest bass collected was 20 inches and weighed 6.5 pounds. This lake has an average largemouth bass population.

REDEAR SUNFISH

Excellent

The redear sunfish population is excellent. 36% of the redear sunfish collected in 2016 were over 8 inches in length.

SAUGEYE (Walleye/Sauger Hybrid)

Very Good

This hybrid, a cross between a walleye and a sauger, does very well in this lake. Fish up to 7 pounds have been caught in the past.

Location: Randolph County Conservation Area is located 5 miles north east of Chester.

Description: This scenic 65-acre lake is located in a steep, wooded valley. Some years, aquatic plant beds ring the entire shoreline, while in other years plants are absent. There is a concrete boat ramp and plenty of parking in the blacktopped parking lots. Shore angler access is available at many different places around the lake and there is a 10 hp limit for boat motors.

History and Status of the Sport Fishery: The IDNR Division of Fisheries is active in the management of Randolph County Lake since it opened to the public in 1961. The lake receives annual stockings (when available) of hybrid walleye, channel catfish, and rainbow trout.

Additional Lake Information: There is a 10hp limit for boat motors. There is a concrete boat ramp and plenty of parking in the blacktopped parking lots. Boat rental is available at the concession stand. 2 pole and line fishing only. Swimming, wading, and water skiing are prohibited.

Largemouth bass: 15" minimum length limit, 3 fish daily limit
Channel catfish: 6 fish daily limit
Saugeye: 14" minimum length limit, 6 fish daily limit
