Fish Status

Very Good

This species is solid in this lake. Fish collected during our last sample showed Channel Catfish predominantly in the 0.5 lb. to 4.0 lb. range. The largest individual was 29” long and weighed 11.7 lbs. There are plenty of this fish group to be caught by anglers. Site regulation: 6 fish daily creel limit.

The crappie population is decent in Lake Glen Shoals. Our last sample exhibited high numbers of this species, which can slow growth and condition. Most fish resided in the 6” to 9” length range. As well, the largest crappie was 12” at .91 lbs. Hopefully angler harvest, and the addition of largemouth bass will reduce densities to allow the production of larger individuals in the future.

This trophy species is stocked into Lake Glen Shoals by IDNR at 2” in length. During our surveys, we don’t normally see this pelagic predator. In 2015, we were lucky enough to find 3 “wipers” measuring from 19” to 24”, and weighing up to 8.8 lbs. Site regulation: 17” minimum length limit; 3 fish daily creel limit.

This fish group has good size structure in this water body. Conversely, overall abundance is subpar at this time. The majority of bass reside in the 12” to 16” zone, yet larger fish up to 4.2 lbs. were collected in our last survey. A 12 lb. bass was caught several years ago in this impoundment, so potential is here. IDNR bass stockings should benefit this population over time. Site regulation starting April 1, 2016: 15” minimum length limit; 3 fish daily creel limit.
