Fishing Report for Decatur, Lake

FISHING REPORT PROVIDED BY:  Reported by Mikes Tackle World at 2283 E. Gedder Ave in Decatur & Jerry's Bait shop in Mt. Zion. Stop by soon for fresh bait and tackle box supplies. Fishing is grand, awesome, and exciting - don't miss out!

WATER CONDITIONS:  Lake water levels are up and good for fishing. Fishermen are successful fishing off the banks or from a boat. Carp (Fair to Good): are biting on night crawlers - on the lake and at the spillway, and are also being taken with bow and arrow. Look for Bluegill (Fair): along the shorelines with wax worms !!

FISHING CONDITIONS

CRAPPIE

Fair: A few very nice sized fish in the 12 to 14 inch range being found with minnows in deeper (20 feet) water levels over brush. Barely Fair: Some being caught - no big numbers. Look for the big ones deeper. Catching a few in the 12 to 13 inch range. Anglers using minnows, tube jigs, Charlie Brewer sliders, Power Bait, Strike Kings, Slab Busters.

WALLEYE

Fair: A few nice sized fish are being taken from the Kaskaskia River with curly tails and Strike King red eyed shad while trolling.

CHANNEL CATFISH

Fair: One day is good and the next-not so much. No great big fish being caught but catching quite a few nice sized fish all around the lake. Favorite baits are leeches, shad, shad guts, minnows, big shrimp, Sonny's & Coles stink bait, skip jack, & Coles cheese bait. Cast along the edges and at the spillway in the holes. The river is producing a few nice ones!

WHITE BASS

Fair: Fish hitting on blade baits off the banks and at the spillway; also using Big dudes, sandblasters, spoons, Bomber Spoons, Cast Champs, and Charlie Brewer Sliders in deeper water levels.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Fair: Some hitting on small crank baits, top water lures, plastics, and spinner baits near the dam.
