FISHING AREA: Lake Decatur is a 3,093 acre lake with 36 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 23 feet. Acivities such as boat fishing, skiing, camping, and picnicking are offered. Lake Decatur is located on the south edge of the City of Decatur in Macon County. The lake can be accessed from Illinois Route 36 that crosses an arm of the lake or visitors can travel east of Illinois Route 51.
WATER CONDITIONS: The Lake levels are up a little due to recent rainfall. The river is in it's banks. Crappie are biting!
NOTE: Lake Decatur is listed on the top ten list of the best pan fishing spots in Illinois.
FISH: Crappie ... Good; Anglers reported catching fish in the area with jigs and minnows; black crappie were on the banks and white crappie were 8 to 10 feet deep at Shelbyville Lake.
FISH: Largemouth & White Bass ... Good; Fishing has been good especially at Shelbyville Lake. Fish are feeding for the winter months.
FISH: Trout ... Good; The stocked trout pond has nice sized fish to catch.
NOTE: Waterfowl hunting activities in this area are popular.
