FORBES LAKE STATUS REPORT SUMMARY

 

CHANNEL CATFISH: Natural reproduction by channel catfish is not expected to maintain a quality fishery in this 525 acre impoundment and sine the resumption of supplemental stockings the fishery has improved. In 2005, 7,644 non-vulnerable size fish were stocked. Of the 70 fish sampled during the fall survey two were from this stocking. Fish ranging from 15 to 20 inches were the most abundant, while the average size was 18 inches and 1.7 lbs. The largest fish collected was 27 inches and 8.9 lbs.

WALLEYE AND SAUGER: The fishery for saugeye appears to be doing well as 5 year classes of fish were collected during both of the 2005 spring and fall surveys. Fish ranging from 13 to 16 inches were the most abundant, while the largest was 25 inches and 7.47 lbs.

STRIPED BASS AND HYBRID: The fishery for hybrid striped bass appears to be doing fairly well, as fish collected during the spring and fall 2005 surveys represented 4 year classes including young of the year fish. The most abundant fish were in the 13 to 18 inch and 20 to 22 inch size ranges. The largest fish sampled was 22 inches and 6.2 lbs. Larger fish were frequently reported by anglers which were not observed, which ranged from 8 to 12 lbs. with a few in the 14 lb. class.
