EAST FORK LAKE STATUS REPORT SUMMARY

LARGEMOUTH BASS: EAST FORK LAKE The size structure of the bass population in East Fork Lake remains relatively unchanged from last year. Data from the Fall survey showed a small decline in most of the population indices, but all indices remained well within their target range. Fall survey data showed 21% of the bass population was larger than 15", with a PSD of 61. One reason for the slow recovery of the bass population following the 1999 fish kill has been the decline in gizzard shad abundance. The shad population which was decimated by the harsh winter in 2000 2001, showed significant signs of recovery in 2002 and again in 2003. Bass reproduction and recruitment continue to be excellent and should help the bass population to improve even further over the next few years. City boat permits and tournament permits are required and may be purchased in advanced. For permit information contact the Olney City Clerks office at 618/395 7302.
