BEAVER DAM LAKE STATUS REPORT SUMMARY

LARGEMOUTH BASS: BEAVER DAM LAKE - The Spring 2004 survey was similar to the previous years field work. 142 bass ( 142 fish/hr. ) were captured during one hour of daytime electrofishing effort. These fish ranged from 5" to 22" and weighed up to 6.6 lbs. Reproduction, and recruitment are good as 42 bass ( 30% ) were found in the 8" to 12" zone. Good numbers of larger fish continue to be hard to come by. Only 10 individuals ( 7% ) were larger than 14" in total length. Larger bass reside in this small impoundment, though high densities are suspect. At any rate, this impoundment is managed to produce large panfish. With the high numbers of bass in place, this scenario has materialized. This population would be rated average for this period.

CHANNEL CATFISH: BEAVER DAM LAKE - 57 Channel Catfish were netted during our spring 2004 sample. These fish were found via daytime electrofishing, and overnight gillnetting effort. The 2004 survey almost tripled the six year mean for this impoundment. Channel Catfish collected measured from 8.7" to 22.5", and weighed up to 5.3 lbs. 11 (19.3%) catfish weighed at least 2 lbs., and 2 (3.5%) exceeded 4 lbs. This fishery is rated average for this report period.
