Details
In 1978, Spring Lake ( Tazewell County) was divided into two distinct waters for the purpose of major rehabilitative management of fish and wildlife populations. North Spring Lake consists of 578 acres and South Spring Lake has an area of 610 acres. Both Lakes have an average depth of 2.9 feet. Historically, they were part of the Illinois River and as such was a lateral, freshwater marsh with luxuriant aquatic vegetation growth. The management of these lakes was intended to result in a "recreation" of this marsh environment. North Lake was rehabilitated in 1981 and South Lake in 1986.
